CreateSpace Community Forum—I highly recommend you start here when thinking of publishing with CreateSpace. There is tons of information and the people are very friendly and quick to answer questions.
Royalty Free Stock Photos Dreamstime—Dreamstime is where I purchase the majority of my stock photos. They have good prices and a good selection. iStockPhoto—iStock has a larger and more unique selection than many places, but their prices are higher. Still, if you don’t mind paying more, it’s worth a look. I’ve purchased a couple from here. (And for using my referral link, you get 10 free credits if you sign up.) BigstockPhoto—Bigstock has a good variety like Dreamstime as well as good prices. I’ve bought a lot of photos from here for book trailers because their prices on smaller images is very good. Fotolia—Fotolia is like iStock in that they have a large and unique selection of photos that differs from places like Dreamstime and their pricing is very good. Once in a while they send out great email offers. Stock.xchng—This is a fantastic site to find free stock photos, especially for book trailers. Just make sure you read the photographers terms for each photo. Fonts MyFonts—A great website to find fonts. I bought the cover fonts for both Pirates & Faith and Makilien from here. Some can be pretty pricey, but there are plenty for low budgets and even some free ones. Font Squirrel—This is a website with quite a selection of free fonts. They are all supposed to be free for commercial use, but make sure to check the terms for each one just to be sure. Book Trailer Music Audionautix—I LOVE Audionautix. Free, commercial use music is really hard to find and they’ve got a great selection. Just read terms of use and make sure to credit. Incompetech—Not as big a selection as Audionuatix, but it’s still good, free, commercial use music. As always, read the terms and credit. Marketing Materials Vistaprint—Vistaprint has a large variety of customizable products from business cards to mugs for reasonable prices. Sign up for their exclusive offers. You’ll get quite a few emails from them, but the great deals are worth it. I’ve ordered from them several times and am always pleased with the quality. PrintKeg—PrintKeg is one of my favorite printing sites. They have some of the lowest prices I’ve found, especially on their posters. GotPrint—Another reasonably priced printer. Domain Names Namecheap—I recommend Namecheap to register you domain name as a good alternative to using GoDaddy. I have two of my websites hosted there and plan to transfer the rest. Photo Manipulation & Digital Art Tutorials DeviantArt—DeviantArt is a great place to start for any sort of digital art tutorials, though I recommend searching with caution if you wish to avoid anything less than wholesome. eCover Creator My eCover Maker—Want a cool 3D cover for your book to display on your website? This is one of the best and simplest ways I’ve found to do that. They have a few free templates, otherwise it’s $4.95 per download or $14.95 a month for unlimited downloads, but you can cancel anytime, even right after you sign up, and still have the month you paid for. The $14.95 is worth it if you want several different types of 3D covers for you book or have multiple books. |
