Pirates & Faith Series
Book One - The Pirate Daughter's Promise
Just when an unexpected encounter gives Skye a small glimmer of hope that things might change in her favor, her world is shattered. She is awakened in the night by cannon blasts. Pirates storm the orphanage, drag her away, and force her aboard their ship. The cruel captain's intentions are clear. He will extract from her, through any means necessary, the location of the treasure hidden by her father. For Skye to divulge the location would mean breaking the last promise she made to him. She's certain she never will, but what happens when the lives of those dearest to her are at stake?
The Pirate Daughter's Promise is full of daring high seas adventure; sweet, wholesome romance; surprising discoveries; unlikely new friends; and the rewards of trusting in God even when life seems impossible.

My Journey and Experiences Writing This Book
I began writing The Pirate Daughter’s Promise late in 2003 after I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and thought it would be fun to write about pirates. It was the first time I had ever thought of writing a book with a Christian message though it started out as a typical, non-Christian pirate adventure. It was also my first story with any romance. I was quite the tomboy in my younger years so romance never occurred to me while writing before. The book went well until I just stopped writing it after the fifth chapter. I remember a strange feeling of opposition after I changed it to contain a Christian message. I think for that reason I quit writing it and went back to my other book projects. I hardly thought of it at all until May 2006 when I picked it up and began writing it again. I think I went back to it because that was right when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest came out, and I got back into pirates. Once I started writing again, I couldn’t stop. In all, the writing of that book took me two and a half weeks to complete, a time period I’ve never come even close to matching before or since.
The completion of The Pirate Daughter’s Promise was the first time I ever seriously thought about trying to get published. It had always been a dream, but nothing more. A year later after I’d seriously begun to research it, I found the WinePress Publishing website and looked into self-publishing with Pleasant Word. One year after that, I had a published book in my hand and by that time I had Every Tear, book two, finished.
Book Two - Every Tear
On the front of the metal, oval shaped locket were etched many tiny designs. Turning it over in his hand, Will looked at the inside on which was engraved his name, William Jonathan James. He ran his finger along the edge of the locket where once had been hinged another half. Will continued to stare at the necklace. It was the only link to his past yet it could never answer the questions he lived with. Who was he, really? Who had his parents been, what were their names, and why had they abandoned him to live the life of an orphan?
Aside from the nagging and sometimes troubling memories and questions of his past, life for Will over the last year has been truly blessed. His relationship with Skye grows daily as he plans and prepares a future life for them. However, all he has envisioned is endangered by an unexpected stranger with a shocking identity. Suddenly, Will learns more about his past than he thought he'd ever know, but it comes at a steep price when he and everyone closest to him are thrown into the middle of a dangerous plot that threatens all their lives.
Every Tear, the moving sequel to The Pirate Daughter's Promise, is an example of how God never leaves our side, even in our most troubling and sorrowful moments, taking every tear into account.

My Journey and Experiences Writing This Book
I had no idea when I wrote The Pirate Daughter's Promise that it would be the first book of a series, but I love sequels so I immediately began trying to think of one as soon I as I was finished with The Pirate Daughter's Promise. Trying to come up with a story for a sequel was not an easy task. Finally, almost a month later, I had the beginning of an idea, but it was only a very vague idea that I would have to really build on so I continued planning.
A couple of weeks later, I started the prologue and first chapter. I still didn't have a complete plan, but I thought I could figure it out once I got far enough. That was also around the same time I came up with the book's title, Every Tear. The story of how I came up with that is one of my favorite memories of writing the book. We were driving home from shopping one afternoon, and I was specifically trying to think of a title because I like to have the title as soon as possible. I had one or two ideas written down, but nothing I really liked. As I was doing this, a certain song just happened to be playing on the radio. Praise You in This Storm by Casting Crowns. I'd heard the song so many times, my brother even had the CD, but I was very not into music at that time and hadn't listened to the lyrics before. However, that afternoon I heard the lyrics, ". . . every tear I've cried, You hold in Your hand." They fit my story perfectly and immediately I wrote "Every Tear" in my notebook. The title stuck. It reminded me of a verse that became the main one for my book.
You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? – Psalms 56:8 NASB
It was only after that that I listened to all of Praise You in This Storm and realized how the whole song reminded me of my book. It was a huge inspiration as I got further into the story. To me it was such a wonderful and amazing sign that God was guiding me in writing it.
Still, it wasn't easy. For the longest time I couldn't think of a good ending for the book, and I couldn't really get into it without knowing where my characters were going to end up. Finally, in August 2006 I figured out my ending and really started writing. I had more difficulty along the way, but eventually I got it finished in May 2007 the very day before I started my job to pay for publishing The Pirate Daughter's Promise. It was another small sign of God's help because after I started my job I lost much of my writing time, and it would have probably been another couple of months until I could have finished.
Book Three - A Captain's Heart
When his father sends him on a voyage to collect two family guests, it only complicates matters, particularly Kyle's growing desire to marry and make a home. He finds himself caught between pleasing his parents and living according to what he believes is right. As some things begin to change for the better, could a secret no one is expecting be enough to tear at Kyle's heart and destroy the love he has found?
In A Captain's Heart, the continuing story of Pirates & Faith, meet new friends and revisit old ones while seeing the importance of patience and never giving up on those we love because all things are possible with God.

My Journey and Experiences Writing This Book
It was late afternoon and I was looking through some of the photos on my laptop I’d saved while researching the first two books and my imagination took over as I began visualizing this interesting young sea captain. I had no plan of ever going further in my Pirates & Faith series than The Pirate Daughter’s Promise and Every Tear, but as this knew story quickly formed in my mind I thought about how I could link it to the other two books. It really was quite amazing how God brought it all together. I had quite a complete story outline written down in my notebook by that evening and began writing immediately. I finished it on March 26, 2008 so it only took me about three months to write. It was my second fastest completed book after The Pirate Daughter’s Promise.
Book Four - Finding Faith
“Marriage isn’t a bad thing,” Edward told his daughter gently.
“I know it’s not, Papa,” Emma replied. “It’s just not for me. I love being who I am and being the captain of the Mercy. I don’t want things to ever change.”
But as hard as Emma tries to stop it, she finds change is inevitable, particularly when her father’s business, and therefore her livelihood, is threatened. The last thing she wants thrown into the midst of it is romance. Determined never to marry or give up her passion for sailing, Emma’s quick temper lands her in more and more trouble, especially when it brings a kind and handsome rival captain into her life, throwing it into turmoil.
In the dramatic conclusion to Pirates & Faith, can Emma find the faith to trust that God’s plans truly are better than her own, or will it be too late for a second chance?

My Journey and Experiences Writing This Book
It was quite interesting getting it all worked out. Of course I had no intention of ever writing about Emma when I wrote Every Tear, but it was very fun to look at the young girl I had created for that story and imagine what she would be like as a young woman.
Finding Faith was the most unusual story for me to write. I am hopelessly romantic and not a huge fan of reading books about women who are willful, stubborn, highly independent, and constantly refusing the men who love them, so to write about someone who had absolutely no interest in romance and marriage was quite the challenge. It definitely exercised my writing skills.
I struggled terribly with Finding Faith. I tried to keep pushing through it, but I got to about chapter thirteen and completely ran out of steam. At that time I set the book aside and for a long while I did not think I’d ever finish it. Finally I made myself go back to it and finished it on February 27, 2009. I still did not even like it after I was finished and was really discouraged about my writing, but after many times of editing, I realized it was not nearly as bad as I thought and that Satan was only trying to discourage me.
So it was with quite a struggle and a lot of work that I’ve reached the official end of my Pirates & Faith series and have learned a lot through it in the six years it took to complete it. It has increased my faith and taught me a lot about patience, and I hope God will use it to really touch people’s lives in just the way they need it.
